CHECKLIST |
1.
First, make sure that you have Windows up and running properly.
2. Prepare your Windows 95 Installation diskettes/CD just in
case you need to install some additional software components.
3. Verify the modem's configuration through the Control Panel.
Make sure the correct settings for your modem type, speed, connection
preferences. You can verify this by dialing in using the Hyperterminal,
a built-in program of Windows 95. If the modem responds to the
Hyperterminal, then the modem is probably configured properly. |
STEP
1 : INSTALLING DIAL-UP NETWORKING
(Proceed to Step 2 if you have it already- it is found in
START ->Programs->Accessories) |

1.
Go to Start ->Settings ->Control Panel ->Add/Remove
Programs
2. In the Add/Remove Menu, click Windows Set-up.
3. Highlight Communication then click details.
4. Make sure that Dial-up Networking Component is checked.
Click Ok then click Apply.
5. The system may then ask you to insert the Windows 95 CD
or diskette.
6. Follow the instructions to guide you in the installation.

2 : CONFIGURING NETWORK SETTINGS |

1.
Go to Start ->Settings ->Control Panel
2. On the Control Panel, click on Network. If your computer
is not connected to any local-area network (LAN), you should
only have the following settings.

| STEP
3 : CREATING DIAL-UP ENTRY FOR PHILCOM ONLINK |

1.
Go to Start->Programs->Accessories->Dial-Up Networking
2. Click on Make New Connection.
3. Replace the text My Connection with something easily remembered
like ONLINK or PhilCom. You should also notice your Installed
Modem in the Select a Modem box.
4. Click on Next to go to the next screen.
5. On the Area Code, type 88
6. Fill up the Telephone Number with 932 and choose Philippines
for the Country Code.
7. Click Next to go to the next screen
8. Click Finish. It will then create its own icon in the Dial-up
Networking Folder.
9. Click the Right-mouse button on the ONLINK or PhilCom icon
and choose Properties. You would notice the General tab which
is divided into two option groups.
10. Uncheck the "Use Country Code and Area Code"
if you are dialing from your locality.
11. On the Connect Using group, select the modem that you
will be using. Click on the Configure button. The selected
Modem Properties would pop up which has three tabs: General,
Connection, and Options.
Use the setting 38400 for General à Maximum Speed if
you have a 28.8 kbps modem or leave the 115200 and leave the
box Connect using this speed unchecked.
On the Connection Tab, the following are the settings:

12. Click OK
13. Now, click on the Server Type.
14. You should use the PPP Type of Dial-up Server by choosing
PPP: Windows '95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet.
On the Advanced options, only Enable Software Compression
should be checked, all other should be unchecked
On Allowed network protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked,
the rest should be unchecked
Click the TCP/IP Setting button, the TCP/IP Setting dialog
box will appear. The following should be the configuration:

Click Ok. Now your dialer is ready for a connection
16. To make a shortcut icon on your desktop for the newly created
dialer, single click your mouse on ONLINK or PhilCom icon in
your Dial-up Networking Window then click the right button of
your mouse to open a dialogue box and choose Create Shortcut
and click OK.

4 : CREATING YOUR OWN EMAIL |
1. Click the ONLINK or PhilCom shortcut in your Desktop (Created
in STEP 3).
2. Type in your USERNAME or ASSIGNED LOG-IN NAME and PASSWORD
then click OK.
3. Once you are connected, start your Web browser (Internet
Explorer, Netscape or other browser) by double clicking its
icon in your desktop.
4. Type in the Address: http://onlink.philcom.com on the address
box and press the ENTER key in your keyboard.
5. Click on the MY ACCOUNT button and type in your USERNAME
and PASSWORD then click OK.
6. Click on the EMAIL MANAGEMENT to create your own email address.
7. Please be sure to remember the username of the email address
you created and password.
8. Your email address would be: username@cdo.philcom.com.ph

| STEP
5 : CONFIGURING MS OUTLOOK EXPRESS |
1. Run the Outlook Express program (Start ->Programs ->Outlook
Express or by clicking the Outlook Express Icon in your Desktop).
Click TOOLS then ACCOUNTS.
2. Under Internet account Window, click MAIL then click ADD,
then choose MAIL
3. Internet connection wizard will appear then type your name
as the display name.
4. Click NEXT then type the E-mail address i.e.
E-mail address: username@cdo.philcom.com.ph (Created in STEP
4)
5. Click NEXT then type-in the following settings for your Mail
server configuration

in the @cdo.philcom.com.ph, change CDO to where you are currently
connected i.e panabo, butuan, surigao or mlbly.

TO CHANGE YOUR ACCOUNT PASSWORD (It is advisable to change
your password every 2 or 3 months to protect your account from
unauthorized use) |
A. Onlink Access Account Password
1.
In your Web browser, type in the Address: http://onlink.philcom.com
2. Click on the MY ACCOUNT
3. You will be prompted for a username and password. Type
in your Onlink Access LOGIN NAME and the PASSWORD you currently
have and click OK.
4. Click on the Change Password menu
5. On the next screen, enter your old password and then your
new password then click OK.
6. The next time you connect to PhilCom-Onlink internet service,
the new password will be used.
B.
Email Account Password
1.
In your Web browser, type in the Address: http://onlink.philcom.com
2. Click on the MY ACCOUNT
3. You will be prompted for a username and password. Type
in your Onlink Access LOGIN NAME and the PASSWORD you currently
have and click OK.
4. Click on the Email Management Menu
5. If you have created multiple email addresses, choose the
email address that you want to have the password changed.
6. On the next screen, enter the old password and then the
new password then click on OK.
7. The next time you access your email account, the new password
will be used.
