One Internet Day
"One Internet Day " is an event to commemorate the connection of the Philippines to the Internet some 8 years ago. This is the 3rd year that this event will take place. Previous anniversaries had been celebrated in Manila, Cebu, and Davao. This year, Cagayan de Oro will join the celebration, thru the efforts of RX10.
RX10, a group of ICT practitioners in Cagayan de Oro belonging to private companies and some government agencies, aims to revitalize the Information and Communications Technology environment in Cagayan de Oro and Region 10. For the "One Internet Day" celebration, RX10 will host activities in Cagayan de Oro on March 22 with the theme "Bridging the Digital Divide" aimed at introducing the use of the Internet to students and other persons who would normally not have the opportunity or means to do so. Participating ICT schools will open their facilities on this day to local high schools for Internet access and tutorials. In addition, there will be technical sessions intended to update ICT professionals.
Highlights of the activity will be:
- on March 19, a press conference and launching of the RX10 website at the Gaisano Mall.
- on March 22, simultaneous tutorial sessions on "Internet Basics" for barangay high school students to be hosted by various ICT schools including Cagayan Capitol College, E-College/STI, Informatics, Liceo de Cagayan, etc.
- on March 22, technical sessions intended for professionals to be hosted by Hexagon Technologies (Website Development), E-College (E-Learning Demo), and Cagayan Capitol College (Cisco Router Configuration).
